The brief

In the current retail environment, customers’ expectations are high and so the need to create a memorable in-store and online experience is one felt by all brands. It’s with this in mind that the client came to TDC&Co with a request
to review the existing store design and propose an evolution that would ensure Makro was future-fit.

The brand’s marketing message of “Big on Life” also needed to inform the concept, communicating the fact that they supply the retail market with quality products at reasonable prices too.

Our approach

In designing a solution, we needed to answer a fundamental question: how
do you marry the larger-than-life scale of a warehouse with an intimate
and contemporary shopping experience? Our response? “Big on Life”
would became “Big on Lifestyle”.

Our concept makes space for smaller, engaging experiences within the bigger store environment. Departments have also been modernised to show the customer that Makro is the leader in retail technology and service.

Complementing this, in specific categories we took product that is usually displayed on high racking among bulk stock and showcased it individually. Special focus was given to storytelling within the zones, with platforms
to showcase product in each department and opportunities throughout
for cross-merchandising.
